  Speckled Hen

There lived an old man and his wife. And a speckled hen resided by their side.

سكن هناك رجل عجوز وزوجته. ودجاجة مرقطة سكنت بالقرب منهم.

The hen one day laid an egg, not ordinary egg but golden it was.

في أحد الأيام، باضت الدجاجة بيضة، ليست بيضة عادية ولكن ذهبية كانت.

Tap-tap! – the old man tried, but the egg wouldn’t crack.

طاخ – طاخ! – حاول الرجل العجوز، ولكن البيضة لم تريد أن تتصدع.

Tap-tap! – the old woman tried, but the egg wouldn’t crack.

طاخ – طاخ! – حاولت المرأة العجوز، ولكن البيضة لم تريد أن تتصدع.

Out ran a little mouse waving its tail …

ومن الخارج ركض فأر صغير ملوحاً بذيله ...

… down fell the egg and was cracked.

... إلى أسفل سقطت البيضة وتصدعت (انكسرت).

Tears were shed by the old man and his wife.

- Don’t cry! – said the speckled hen. – I’ll lay another egg for you, not golden, just ordinary it will be.

دموع انسكبت من الرجل العجوز وزوجته. لا تبكي – قالت الدجاجة المنقطة. أنا سوف أضع لأجلك بيضة أخرى، ليست ذهبية، بل عادية سوف تكون.
